Empathy, understanding, and harmonious connections are the brushstrokes that paint the vibrant tapestry of Nepal. We invite you to embark on a transformative journey of nonviolent communication (NVC), where compassionate dialogue becomes the colors that bring people together.
Our History
The NVC Practice Group Nepal is a non-governmental organization which runs different formal and informal education programs.
The NVC Practice Group was founded in 2009 by a group of university students in Pokhara, Nepal. The main idea of the students, many of them working as teachers, circled around the vision to establish a non-violent style of pedagogy in the classrooms of Nepal.
During this process they read about the concept of Non-violent communication by Marshal Rosenberg. Inspired by the concept of Non-violent communication and motivated to bring the concept into practice, the NVC Practice Group started their work. Hand in hand with the beginning of the campaign “Coloring Nepal with NVC” the NVC Practice Group got officially registered in 2009.
In the first phase the young teachers integrated the concept as much as possible in their daily work in the classroom. This process was also accompanied by many trips and visits to schools, first mainly in the district of Kaski. During the following years, the NVC was providing programs to nearly all districts of Nepal.
Over the years, they trained more and more colleagues and friends about the concept and the numbers of volunteers increased continuously.
In 2017, Sri Ram Timilsina was able to attend the International Intensive Training on Nonviolent Communication from the Center for Nonviolent Communication in Bali.
By spreading the concept of NVC many Nepalese became interested to learn about the concept and to become active as well. Currently, there are 55 active practitioners sharing NVC further within the NVC Practice Group.
As a local grassroot organization the NVC is part of many cooperation’s within the educational sector all over Nepal.
Due to their long-term work the NVC Practice Group was also able to create an international and interdisciplinary network and is in close contact with different experts and educational practitioners all over the world.
Our Vision
The NVC Practice is aiming at spreading the concept and values of non-violent communication all over Nepal and thus, contributing to a culture of peace.
In our view, the core concepts are the ability to observe our environment without judgements, our individual awareness for our needs and feelings as well as communicate this to our environment. By practicing Nonviolent communication, we are able to establish trustful relationships and contribute to harmony and peaceful co-existence within ourselves, in our families, communities and regions.
